August 6^th-10^th from 9am-4pm 

Classes in modern, jazz, ballet, hip-hop, African dance and more will be taught by local dance professionals and members of Eveoke’s Concert Company.  The culminating performance will be held on Saturday, August 11^th.

Impulse Performing Group
July 2012 through June 2013 

Designed to challenge intermediate dancers and ignite a connection to dance in cultural, social, and artistic ways by sharing dynamic, confident, and compelling dances in a variety of performance venues for a diverse audience.

Program Cost: $50/mo. + Tuition

Apprentice Company
October 2012 through August 2013

The Apprentice Company is a pre-professional program aimed at nurturing, strengthening, and supporting committed young dancers who are choosing dance performance as a tool for personal development.

Participation in the Summer Intensive is required for anyone interested in applying for the 2012/2013 Apprentice Company.  Potential members will be evaluated and provided an application at week’s end.

Program Cost: $50/mo. + Tuition

Choreographed by Becky Hurt and Myriam Lucas, BREAK: nine ticks and a boom illuminates the complexities of sexual and domestic violence through captivating spoken word and hip hop.  It’s a safe space for artists and audiences alike to examine the choices we make and how they intersect with the culture we live in.

Eveoke’s Nuestro Mundo summer dance camp will be a fun and inspiring week!   This year’s dance camp is designed to introduce the valuable connection that exists between dance, visual art and different cultures.  Students will be engaged in an artful environment filled with creative and imaginative experiences.  Working with several different teachers in a variety of styles, students will learn dances for a final performance open to all friends and family members.  Explore, discover, and celebrate diversity through dance, art, music, singing and performance!

Eveoke’s new onsite arts education program called REFUGE in the ARTS began in October!

REFUGE in the ARTS is an intensive 9-month program involving weekly technique classes, rehearsals, and exploration of our theme through multiple outlets.  We will be exploring cycles of violence as they exist in the lives of youth/adults, our schools, our communities, and on a global level.

This program is intergenerational with participants between the ages of 10-40 years.

Funders for REFUGE in the ARTS:

Eveoke Dance Theatre aims to create a weekend that will bring Master Folkloric teachers from various traditions together to share the beauty and strength of their cultural dances with all levels of dancers in San Diego.  This inaugural World Rhythms Dance Festival hopes to ignite the desire to learn about each culture and to create a cross-cultural collaborative community environment where students and teachers will experience dance, music, singing, choreography and performance in partnership.

Spearheaded by Playhouse Artistic Director Christopher Ashley, the Resident Theatre Program aims to encourage the artistic development of up-and-coming performing arts organizations, while advancing and contributing to the San Diego theatre scene as a whole. The program is also designed to address San Diego’s lack of available, affordable performance spaces by providing a temporary home each year to one of the many local troupes without a permanent venue.

Eveoke will be in residence September 8 – 25, 2011 in the Playhouse’s Theodore and Adele Shank Theatre with a production of Las Mariposas and May 31 – June 24, 2012 with a production of REFUGE.
