This performance originally appeared as a work-in-progress in 2002 when it brought sold-out houses to Eveoke's downtown rehearsal studio. Funkalosophy returned to the Culy Warehouse in July 2003 with additional movements and a new choreographic structure. Choreographers Gina Angelique and Ericka Moore refined this vibrant, highly athletic work anticipating its next appearance as part of Eveoke's current winter program.

...but artistic director Gina Angelique has reshaped the piece for a three-week run in the Gaslamp.  Provocative, rich in symbolism and expertly performed, it hits you on a visceral level, yet trails questions in its wake.  Angelique is interested in hip-hop as a folk expression; she wants young people to groove to the beat while challenging the atavistic premises of mainstream hip-hop.  For all that, the show is by no means artistic medicine; the dancers, performing all out, are purely entertaining and marvelous to behold. (A shorter version, trimmed of R-rated lyrics will be performed on Sundays)."
